Summary: For several successive years (1996-2001), work has been progressing on an inventory of the Ula River outcrops (South-Eastern Lithuanian Plain). The inventory is based on the stereophotogrametric method, which ensures a high level of precision as regards the results obtained. Of the total 30 outcrops in the Ula River Valley detected on 1:10,000 topographic maps, three outcrops have been chosen for further analysis: Rudnia, Ulos Akis and Pauliu Mazoji. The aerial stereophotogrametric survey method is related to geometric information: plans, profiles in different scales, areas, altitudes, and presents precise information about absolute height. It was also used more detailed classification by L. Botvinkina and texture tables by D. Bauza for south-east Lithuania, based on Botvinkina's classification and modified. The genetic examination of deposits was complemented by a granulometric analysis of sand sediments. Data obtained on granulometric composition and textures revealed that the deposits of the Rudnia outcrop (118.5 m a.s.l.) were formed under calm sedimentation accumulation conditions. The textural features of Ulos Akis outcrops at the height of 104 m a.s.l., composite texture and statistical parameters of granulometric composition imply a dynamic sedimentary environment and sediment transport. The Pauliu Mazoji outcrop deposits (94.7 m a.s.l.) were formed in a dynamic sedimentary environment. The presence of wavy and slowtwise wavy breached textures and statistical parameters of a granulometric composition implies the dominance of washout processes. It is necessary to use different methods (e.g. the hypsometric level analysis, the method of abrasion or morphoscopy of sand deposits) to define the role of periglacial ponds and glacifluvial waters in shaping the environment of the area studied.
