Zarys treści w języku angielskim: Recent extreme hydrological events - droughts and floods - have become more abundant and more destructive than ever in many regions of the globe. The immediate question emerges as to the extent to which a sensible rise in hazard of droughts and floods can be linked to global changes, and in particular - to climate variability and change. On the one hand, increase in frequency and severity of summer droughts is likely in continental interiors in the warming climate. On the other hand, there is potential for higher and more intense precipitation in the warming world. Yet there are a number of non-climatic factors exacerbating flood and drought hazard, such as decrease in storage capacity in catchments, increase in impermeable areas and in runoff coefficient, settlements in flood plains around urban areas, excessive water withdrawals, etc.
