My research focuses on a better understanding of coupled human – environmental systems. I am particularly interested in use of geographic information science and technology (GIS&T) in environmental studies with spatial emphasis on remote sensing change detection and image processing, and mathematical and statistical modeling. I specialize in land use and land cover change detection and modeling with strong focus on mountain environments, in particular the Carpathians, but also on biodiversity assessment, especially in the context of habitat and landscape fragmentation and connectivity analysis and modeling. I am also interested in GIS&T education and e-learning.
I enjoy spending my free time with family and friends. I like to travel and explore new environments and cultures, mountains in particular.
