Summary: The authors present the extent and the character of diurnal transformations of functional and socio-economic structure of the CBD of the city of Kyoto - the historical capital of Japan, presently perceived as the "spiritual capital" of Japan. The analysis was carried out for occupationally active persons in the categories of the night-time and day-time population, aggregated in the main sectors and branches of the economy as well as for socio-economic strata and groups.
